Profile:
With roots dating back to the appointment of the country's first Professor of Accounting in 1902, the Group has a long-standing history of researching and teaching in the area of accounting and finance. Comprising 20 academic members of staff, the Group works closely with industry in theUK and overseas. The School runs a number of programmes that reflect the expertise of the Accounting and Finance Group: BSc in Accounting and Finance, MSc Investments, MSc Accounting and Finance, MSc in Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility and the MBA International Banking and Finance.

Specialist areas of research include: taxation, corporate finance, investments, risk, accounting and the financial aspects of professional football, management accounting in small businesses, corporate governance, and accounting in emerging economies in Europe.

Recent research collaborations have included: the World Bank, the United Nations, the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Investor Relations Society. The group has also been given an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) grant to explore benchmarking online reporting with major UK companies such as BP.

The group incorporates three specialist research centres. The Centre for Corporate Governance Research plays a central role in the development of corporate governance issues, both in the UK and overseas. Recent research includes the relationship between boards of directors and institutional investors; directors' remuneration; compliance with corporate governance codes by both large and small companies; and corporate governance developments in Central and Eastern Europe. The Centre for Global Finance Research focuses on international finance and financial convergence in Europe, while the Centre for Corporate Finance Research concentrates on corporate finance and financial markets in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and in emerging markets, as well as hosting the ESRC Research Seminars on 'Finance and Development'.
