About us

We realise that many factors are important when choosing a place to study. Here are a few reasons why Birmingham Business School excels.

  • We employ over 80 lecturing and research staff – many internationally recognised authorities in their fields
  • The School is accredited by EQUIS, and many of our programmes have individual professional accreditation (for example, AMBA, CIPD, ICSA and CIPS, to name but a few)
  • We teach and research in all the major business subject areas. As well as contributing to academic debate worldwide, our faculty are consulted by the media, industry and Government on a range of issues
  • Our programmes currently include students from over 60 countries. In addition, our MBA is taught in Singapore, Mauritius and Hong Kong, as well as Birmingham
  • The MBA is ranked in the top 100 by the Economist Intelligence Unit, with 6th place in their 'Student Quality' ranking, and 4th in 'Diversity of Recruiters'
  • In recent years our MBA has been ranked the UK's number one programme by the EIU

A Global Approach to Business
We are the country's first Business School, established in 1902.  Internationalism was vitally important to us from the start, with students from countries such as Peru, Russia, India, Japan and Poland choosing to study here from the very beginning.  We still believe that the global nature of business makes it essential that our students and academics understand business from different international perspectives.

A School for the Future
In March 2005 our new £20m home was officially opened by Sir Dominic Cadbury.  We have recently been joined by a number of outstanding faculty and our expansion will continue in the coming months and years.

Departments

The School is home to five departments, each designed to deliver authoritative research and specialist teaching:

These groups incorporate specialist research centres with members from across the global academic community.
